Off-Theme Thursday: Wildflower
Hey, Hey! Have you ever looked at a collection and LOVED it, but knew that the theme may be a little hard for you to use? Well today we're continuing in our new series called "Off-Theme Thursday" where we give you examples of how we approach using a themed collection outside of its theme!
Today we're working with Wildflower, a spring-themed collection with a touch of girl power and Becky, Sabrina and Theresa are bring your three off-theme layouts with great technique to help you think outside the theme!
Becky
So for Off Theme Thursday we were challenged to use Wildflower, a beautiful collection full of, well, flowers! I decided to go off piste with this collection and use it to document my granddaughter’s first snow! I first grabbed some acetate and used the flower cut file to create a stencil.
I used some glitter paste through the stencil onto white card to create a background which looks like sparkly snow flowers! I then backed my photo with two of the patterned papers and placed it to the left of the page. I chose mainly blue flowers and embellishments as they are a cool colour to help the ‘snow’ mood (and match my son and daughter-in-law’s sweaters) with a few pops of the yellow which were echoed in my granddaughter’s snowsuit.
The butterflies finished the layout off along with a couple of the acetate flower off cuts which I placed on the photo cluster. This is one of my favourite layouts and just goes to show that flowers are not just for summer!
Sabrina
Hi! This is Sabrina and I’m excited to share with you my Wildflower project. I had recently taken some photos of my daughter and her stick collection and knew the Wildflower collection would work. I would just stick with the papers, different colored leaves and other die cuts to create this project. I layered several patterned papers down at the bottom along with two photos. I also had a large main were I added small clusters around it. I just love how my project together and using this “spring” collection to document my daughters love of sticks!
Theresa
I love the challenge of using a collection off-theme, and collections like Wildflower make it so easy! The other day my child River asked Alan if he would teach them how to make biscuits, and I jumped at the opportunity to not only enjoy how fabulous they were, but also to snap a few photos for my album.
The Wildflower collection is perfect for this layout. I particularly love the alphabet set, which looks like homemade bread to me – I don’t know why. So I started with that and then added a background paper, a travelers notebook signature, and the rest kind of fell onto the table. I tucked a few of the beautiful florals underneath the signature to soften the edge between the plaid and the stripes. I added a few puffy alphas (Elle’s Studio) to complete my title, and also tucked in those adorable Chucks and the butterfly around that. For my journaling, just a simple label at the top and all done!
