Mix It Up Monday: Love Potion + Smitten

Hello and welcome to the Thirty-First edition of our fun series: Mix It Up Monday! We love to show you how easy it is to mix and match TRD collections to create something new and wonderful!

For this month’s mash-up, we are combining the brand new Love Potion collection with one of my absolute favorites: Smitten! Both have a gorgeous red + pink base color palette that work really well together and some icons that are perfect for each other as well! The team had a great time mixing these two up and I think you will too!

The colors of Smitten and Love Potion go so well together.  I took leftover scraps from Love Potion and pulled some patterns from Smitten to bring those pretty pale blues.  I looked through my digital photos with the general idea of “love” and came across photos of when we brought our dog home. I felt like the pastel colors in smitten really leaned into the “baby” love feel of the memories.

I am such a minimalist scrapper, but when I saw this photo of my daughter in my to be scrapped pile, I knew I needed to embrace all of the things! She went all out creating this outfit, so I went all out combining elements of Love Potion and Smitten. I started in my comfort zone of journal cards and then just kept going. The colors from each kit worked so well together. In the end, I love my page… it’s as fun and joyful as her outfit!

Being challenged to mix two or more collections is one of my favorite ways to scrap. It makes me look at papers and embellishments in different ways. For this week’s MIUM, I used the newest collection by Traci, The Love List, along with an older release called Smitten. I started with my photos. My husband and I were at a birthday party, so you wouldn’t think that it would be a “love” layout. However, I scrapped about us being at a great-nephew’s birthday party and how those parties are in our past. We are looking at being empty nesters in the next couple of years and how our relationship will change. I chose a large photo of a sky with clouds that I took at the party, and then chose a selfie of the two of us that I inset at the bottom right along with my journaling on a TN signature from Smitten. I began by using pieces from Smitten, snagging that plaid paper to mimic my husband’s shirt, finishing up by using pieces from The Love List. What I ended up with was a large cluster at the bottom right and a smaller one at the upper left. That left that sky and cloud photo arching across the page, helping the eye move throughout the layout. I encourage you to use photos with themed kits that don’t match as well as mixing collections that don’t match. You’ll find that you open up a whole new world with your supplies!

Combining these two kits for a Mix it Up Monday was SO easy and so much fun! They have such similar colors, and themes! That it just felt like using one EXTRA BIG kit. To make it feel more cohesive, I made sure to use similar floral background papers from each kit, and then I tried to find similar 3D flowers to mix and match-- it was so easy with both of these kits because there are so many fun florals!  To finish it all off, I grabbed my favorite parts of the digital kits-- the mixed media and the scatters! The little stars add so much fun, and I love the texture of the mixed media paints poking through.
