March Theme: Girl Power
Did you know that March is Women’s History Month? We’re celebrating the ladies today with the March Theme: Girl Power! Whether it be yourself, a woman or women you admire, your daughter, or your friend group of badass women, Caroline, Allie, Cathy, and Trish have the inspiration you need!
Caroline - The Love List
When I first signed up to create a project for the theme of "Girlpower" I had every intention of creating a page about my daughter. I often use my scrapbooks (and her own story album) to write her love notes for the future and reframe her stories into empowering experiences for her.
My own life story has been taking some twists and turns over the past months and I have been living with anxiety for quite some time. I have been taking a lot of steps to prioritise my self-care and heal. I decided instead that I wanted to document this journey in my own album and I am so glad that I did!
I have taken a huge step to leave my corporate job and move forwards towards self employment. This is a big, scary move but also incredibly empowering and exciting (go, girl power!) One of my new adventures will be creating a scrapbook class (hopefully a series of them) and the photo I wanted to scrapbook for this story was the one that I took for my tutor profile.
I decided to work with one of ALL TIME FAVOURITE collections of Traci's - The Love List! This was the first printable scrapbook collection I ever purchased and it completely revolutionised the way that I scrapbook (yes, hybrid scrapbooking really CAN be that powerful!!)
I used the Traveller's Notebook signature quote "You Deserve a Life that Excites You" as my jumping off point. It was the perfect sentiment for my story! I chose to cut that down as a tag.
It was easy to choose the paper I wanted for my background as that colourful woodgrain has to be my most favourite paper that Traci has ever created!! From there I created a pocket for my story (which is typed up and adhered to the back of that tag) and then layered up some other papers behind my photos.
I brought in a couple of tags from the die cut pack to bring that tag shape over to the second page and then layered up additional die cuts to soften the edges and make things extra pretty!
I love that this collection includes some black and white papers, embellishments etc as that gives it a pop of depth that would be missing without it. As I am wearing a black t shirt in the photo I chose to bring in some of that black and white to ground things and it looks great! Traci really has an incredible eye for design and that is one of the things I love most about her products. That and the sentiments she always layers into her cards and die cuts. There are always empowering motifs and word bits that really help you to tell deeper stories. I just love to work with her collections!! Hopefully you will feel inspired to give them a try too!
Allie - Indivisible
When I thought about girl power, some of the amazing women that are in the political space came to my mind-- real and fictional. I love women who are not afraid to speak up and speak out for what is right. That’s girl power!
The journaling reads: Fictional or totally real, some of the most badass women that I admire are in US politics. Women who are not afraid of speaking up and getting loud, even if it means they aren’t “popular.” They are speaking up for what is right.
Women who demand a seat at the table, no matter who tells them “no” because they know they are the most qualified. That’s some badass girl power.
Cathy - Renewal
am one of the lucky ones. I have surrounded myself with many strong women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Some play sports, some make crafts, some have kids and others do not. Each have helped lift me through the years. I have learned to lean on them when times are tough and to be sure to celebrate with them when times are good. Because of this, I make sure to take time out for all of them. Being surrounded by girl power is a gift that I intend to continue to share with any person willing to take it.
This layout began with a photo. A photo of four women who I am lucky enough to call some of my best friends. Using the Traci Reed Designs Renewal kit released earlier this year, I was able to get this group of friends in my album as a reminder to me for next time I forget that I am, indeed, surrounded by girl power
Trish - Summer Camp
As a mom to many, many boys, and as someone who has never been particularly on the “girly” side, girl power has always been a hard theme for me. However, for all of the boys in my life, I do have this absolutely amazing girl that I have had the pleasure to give birth to and raise and she definitely makes me look at the phrase differently. This girl is absolutely amazing. She is smart, super funny, motivated, and even though she swears she is awkward and shy she doesn’t let that hold her back from doing things like theater. Getting to spend time with her on our girl days to the museum or the gardens is always a blessing because it lets me see her in a way that gets overshadowed at home with all of her brothers around.
