December Daily 2020: Day 2

It’s Day 2 of December Daily and I’ve got a SUPER fun single page for you today with some dimensional hexagon “ornament” photos! They’re really a lot more simple to make than they look and add a fun interactive page in your album!

Our traditions dictate that the day after Thanksgiving is tree day! I will admit, though, that decorating the tree has lost its shine for both the teenagers AND me, so I just snapped a couple quick shots that didn’t really lend themselves to anything spectacular in my album, so instead, I made the page spectacular!

The journaling also reflects how the shine has come off the process and will lead into the next story for Day 3, where we re-decorate the tree!

Step By Step Process for Dimensional Hexagons

(I used my silhouette for the Hexagons, but you can easily use a punch or dies as well.)

  1. For EACH hexagon you will need (2) Patterned Hexagons, (1) Photo Hexagon and (1) HALF hexagon for your journaling (or full hexagon if you want to fold your journaling down the middle) all the same size.

  2. Score each of the patterned hexagons down the middle using a scoreboard and bone folder.

  3. Cut your photo hexagon directly down the middle.

  4. Adhere one side of each of your patterned hexagons “back to back” to your page. And by “back to back” I mean their folded spines should be touching and you’re adhering the hexagon half to your layout, not each other. Make sure the part of the pattern you want shown is on the INSIDE of the fold and not the outside, the outside will get covered up.

  5. Adhere each half of your hexagon photo to the outer top sides of the hexagons so they form a full photo.

  6. Adhere your journaling half hexagon on the inside of one of your hexagons, if desired.

Note: You will need a nice, thick cardstock patterned paper to create these dimensional pieces. Thinner patterned paper won’t give it the same “lift.” Trust me, I tried!

From there, I just embellished the rest of the page! I admit, I struggled a bit with embellishing this one because I had a few missteps in construction that threw me off my game, but I ended up using these gorgeous pieces from the #StayHome for the Holidays Digital Kit that I printed on Printable Diamond Glitter Cardstock by Cardstock Warehouse That fit the bill perfectly!
