Going Off-Theme using a Themed Collection with Beth
Do you ever have one of those moments where you see a new collection, fall in love with it and then realise you probably don’t have the right kind of pictures to fit the theme?? If so, you are not alone! That’s exactly what happened to me with the new Bookish collection! Don’t get me wrong, I love reading but as a full-time working Mum of teenagers and a house full of pets I just don’t get the time to do it as often as I would like!
But those colours! The patterns! And don’t even get me started on the florals! This collection is absolutely my style so I was determined I would find some way of using it for a non-book related way! Luckily, as always, Tracy packed this release with so much that there were plenty of other elements for me to use.
I’m currently working my way through my 2023 Project Life album and the colours in the bookish collection were the perfect match for my photos from June. I had a mixture of puppy pictures, work trips & my daughter’s birthday so definitely not on theme but I think it really works. When I’m working with a heavily themed collection, I divide everything into subfolders on my laptop. Anything with a more generic look goes into its own folder so that I don’t get lost in the rest of the elements, this really helps focus my approach and find the things that are easier to use.
I made a really simple alteration to one of the 6x4 cards for my title card, all I had to do was erase the text in Photoshop and add some of the black alphas for the word June. I do all of my journaling in photoshop and I added some of the floral stickers to the bottom of the yellow card to create a more cohesive look and make a visual triangle of florals with the title card & other journal card.
I already had the photos printed for all of my older “catch-up” layouts and I have a fairly minimalistic approach to embellishing my pages so all I needed were some tabs & labels to add some captions to and it made for a really quick & easy layout.
I’m so happy with how the finished pages turned out!
The thing I love most about digital collections is the versatility and the opportunity to customise things to fit your own needs. I’d love to hear how you’ve used themed collections in different ways.
