Using Pocket Pages to Finish Those Albums with Luly!
As the end of the school year rolls around – many scrapbookers are faced with the daunting task of preparing scrapbooks for their graduating high schooler (or 8th grader or College student). I myself did a good job of getting a lot of the memories documented, but I made a goal this year to get a few of my UFOs-Unfinished Objects, done ( I have a very long list…)! Now its not to say I hadn’t documented anything but it was pretty slim – I did 1 digital page to include in our family’s yearbook!
One of the most daunting tasks is collecting all the photos that you want to document – I use Google Photos as 1 of my backups, and search by date for the most success. I had originally thought that I would use a 6” x 8” Simple Stories album but then remembered I had a simpler solution…an album with 3” x 4” and 4” x 6” pockets.
Traci has some great kits which are perfect for documenting all of those activities that your high schooler (or in my case college student) spent countless hours doing! In the shop you will find kits perfect for Swimming, Baseball/Softball, Soccer, Basketball, Football, Band (Marching & Color Guard), Hockey, and Cross Country/Running.
I chose a mix of cards and embellishments from the Band and Football kits and cards to start to document my son’s Senior year in Marching Band. Since I am keeping it simple I mostly just printed 3” x 4” and 4” x 6” cards and pictures.
I did make some of my own embellishments by cutting some of the digital elements and then popping them up on foam squares both inside and outside the pockets. I also used some circle and star punches to add a few more pops of color and interest. You could use enamel dots or colored twine. Again the goal is to keep it simple but fun.
Don’t feel intimidated by the pockets – I took one of my very favorite photos and used 2 of the 4” x 6” pockets to highlight it. Remember you are the boss of your pockets!
Lastly, I had scanned the football tickets (I am glad I thought of it back in the day.) I did a flip up pocket to include all the tickets and even personalized cover – and it was a fun extra “embellishment” to add to my spread.
Just remember – to get some of these big projects done keep it simple and use premade cards and elements to add a little fun to pictures. Your kids appreciate more that their memories are documented (that means print the pictures!) than all the fancy extras. Enjoy all the fun memories that come with the graduation activities.
