The Modern "Sticker Sneeze"with Cheryl: Embellishing with Intention

Editor’s Note: You often hear the term “sticker sneeze” used to describe scrapbook pages where it looks like the scrapper just threw everything at the page in random fashion. For modern scrapbookers (especially digital ones like Cheryl, throwing everything at the page has become an art form and a lesson in more really IS more. This page by Cheryl with the True North collection demonstrates how she achieves this perfectly-embellished style!

It’s Cheryl @watchcherylscrap here, excited to share my latest scrapbook layout featuring the stunning True North collection by Traci Reed Designs. This collection, brimming with water-themed elements, was the perfect match for some  photos of my daughter from 2014.

Living near the beach has given me a treasure trove of beautiful photographs, and for this layout, I selected two standout shots. The first, a prominent vertical photo, captures my daughter at the water’s edge, perfectly framed by the sand. The second, a smaller photo, is placed in the bottom right corner and shows off her beautiful smile.

After placing my photos, I added journaling cards arranged in a horizontal line across the top. I then built up a variety of embellishments, which naturally evolved into a circular composition while maintaining three main clusters: one in the top right, one in the top left, and one in the bottom right. This layout design guides the eye seamlessly around the page.

I incorporated a tag with a masking technique to give the illusion that twine is threaded through its opening. For the title, I used a circular piece of word art placed at the bottom. My sentimental journaling is featured on the upper right journaling card.
