Round & Round: Make an Interactive December Daily page with Theresa!
Hi friends, Theresa here to share some fun paper crafting for your December Daily with you! One of the challenges of December Daily is what to do on those days when you have more than one photo to include, and the close cousin of this challenge: how can you keep your album from being too bulky? In today’s layout we are going to use five round photos that will be layered into tabs that flip open. I am working with the Festive digital collection for this page, beginning with the foundation page I created here for the Festive launch weekend. It features a stunning wreath made from all the fun stickers in the collection, tied together with red and white twine.
I wanted to keep the front of this gorgeous layout as it is, and work on the back. The best way to do that was to keep the circle shape, and then work towards incorporating my photos into that circle. That gave me the idea to have tabs that you could lift up, revealing a half circle photo + half circle patterned paper and stickers. There would be four tabs with four half circle photos. Each photo would be in a different orientation, so one photo in vertical orientation on the left, one in vertical orientation on the right, and the same two with horizontal orientation. Let me give you a list of what you will need:
Patterned paper for the background. Mine is vellum but you can use any paper you like.
One 6 ½” round white cardstock to adhere directly onto the patterned paper. This circle is just a bit larger than the photos to create a smooth border around everything. I’ve adhered it to the patterned paper with adhesive runner, hiding the adhesive behind the stickers.
Four 6” circles cut from white cardstock. These circles will be the mechanism that holds everything in place. You will use your bone folder to crease each circle in the center horizontally and vertically. Make crisp folds so that they will flip nicely for you.
Five photos. The first one will be the full 6 ¼” circle as the cover photo, and the others will be half circle, with the other half circle as patterned papers. Your photos and patterned papers will need to be cut into quarters, vertically and horizontally.
I’ve also added tabs from the Candy Coated Christmas collection so that when you lift each tab, it only lifts up that photo and patterned paper. These two collections are absolutely perfect for each other! The tabs are two-sided, so the blank sides I stamped with word sentiments from Citrus Twist. I also added a few puffy hearts and stars just for fun (Elle’s Studio)!
Now, putting the whole thing together was just a little bit tricky, but once you get going it all works out easily. Here are a few helpful tips:
Start with the top photo and work your way down the stack and around the circle. For the top photo, you will adhere all four quarters of the photo to the first cardstock circle. For the other photos you will adhere just the photo halves.
Sandwich the white cardstock circles in between each photo layer. Remember this is your hinge so to speak, so the first cardstock circle will attach to the full cover photo, and also to the first tab photo on the back.
Next you add the second white cardstock circle, adhere to the second cardstock circle, and adhere your photo to that. You do this with all five photos, creating the round sandwich from photos and cardstock circles.
Use repositionable adhesive so you can move things around if you need to. I ended up moving the tabs because they weren’t in the right place the first time!
Double check your stack for blank cardstock spaces. The purpose of each tab is to allow you to only lift up what is need to see that photo. So if you lift up a tab and see two blank cardstock spots, adhere those together.
Try to leave a bit of space in between each photo and patterned paper so that the folds fold open a bit easier.
I don’t recommend using more than five photos with a total of four tabs.
For the first go around, only adhere your photos. Write the tab number onto the back of your patterned paper pieces so you remember which photo they go with. Then once all the photos are adhered and you’ve for your stack finalized, go back and add your patterned paper pieces. That will help you know where to adhere things down and not get confused!
