Mix It Up Monday: Sunkissed + On The Go & Going Slow

Hello and welcome to the fourth edition of our fun series: Mix It Up Monday! When I was designing the Sunkissed collection, I was reminded so much of the colors in the On The Go & Going Slow collection that I knew they had to be matched up for Mix It Up Monday! While the themes are totally different (summer vs. my tendency to be go, go, going OR doing nothing at all) they actually mesh up really well too because we tend to move a lot slower in the summer too!

Check out the examples below to see how well these two collections go together with tips on combining them!

When approaching combining these two collections, I knew that the colors would match wonderfully, so I really wanted to focus on combining the summer sentiments with the “lazy” sentiments in both collections! I ended up adding even more icons from the On The Go & Going Slow collection than I originally intended (the bees and butterflies and florals) because they just coordinated so well and added so much to the summer theme!

This week for Mix it up Monday we are mixing the new Sunkissed collection with older (but soooo good) On The Go & Going Slow I love to work with papers and embellishments from more than one collection as it adds even more levels of interest to the paper layers, embellishments and sentiments - it also means I have even more goodies to pick from when I am creating.

Sunkissed is full of gorgeous orange, yellow, pink and green tones and sunny, hippy icons. The colours of On The Go & Going Slow match so well that I found it really easy to blend these two collections together.

I wasn't too sure what pieces I was going to pull from each collection when I started so I decided to start with my photo.

I wanted to capture the memory of how wonderful it is for my girl that she can really relax at the moment as her GCSE exams are finished and she is on holiday. She's not a sun lover (and the weather here in the UK isn't [particularly great at the moment) so that helped me to decided to pull the majority of my embellishments from the On The Go & Going Slow collection.

I scanned through my files and found a journal card from that collection that matched the sentiment I wanted to tell perfectly. I also found a fun journal card to capture my story on. I needed to do another print of the die cuts from that collection so I print and cut all of that out before going any further.

Back at my scrap desk I sifted through my Sunkissed papers with that title card visible to find the ones that worked best for me. The green heart paper was perfect for my background, and I decided I wanted a contrasting edge - and went for that gorgeous daisy paper. I padded out my layers with 2 other papers and a card from Sunkissed and then got to work finding embellishments from On The Go & Going Slow.

I knew I wanted to include lots of pink and florals. I am not kidding, the colours blend so perfectly together it was really easy to embellish the page with die cuts from a completely different collection! As the theme of the story was about relaxing, I had to include one of the cute pink snails and that 'power-saving' word strip was perfect!

I added a bit of bling from my stash and called it good there.

I am sooooo happy with this layout. So much so that I have kept both collections out on my desk to make another mix it up project!!

On The Go & Going Slow is a collection I totally overlooked, but why?? It’s an fun collection with great colors. And … it matches with  my new favorite: Sunkissed perfectly.

I mixed up the TN papers and embellishments to make this page about myself. I try to make a selfie on a regular basis and scrapbook those so I include myself into the albums as well.

The rosettes are made with the tn pages that I cut into (2) 1 ¼ inch strips and (1) 2 inch strip (for the center) and made folds with my scoring board every ¼ inch. Be sure to use some strong glue like hot glue to keep your rosettes together. Add some distress oxide in salvaged patina on the background and add embellishments to finish the page.

I love how well these 2 collections mix together! I used the papers from the otg&gs and combined threat with the new sunkissed diecuts.

The distress oxide, matched the paper and die cuts perfectly!

To mix these two collections I leaned heavily on the warm vintage tones and the beautiful golden yellow in both of them. I took the hexagon patterns and shapes from On The Go & Going Slow and used those on my page, but then also duplicated them and clipped in some papers from Sunkissed and mixed the two sets of the hexagons up on the page. I also pulled some of the delicate neutrals papers from On The Go & Going Slow to balance out the bright and more colorful Sunkissed papers.
