DIY Washi Tape in Silhouette Studio & Cricut Design Space

Did you know that there is ACTUALLY adhesive "washi tape" paper you can PRINT on? It's SUPER easy to make your own washi tape, as simple as print and cut, actually!

I used this Printable Washi Sticker Paper - This actually came from the UK and I can’t find a decent supplier stateside, so if you need an alternative, it looks like Frosty Clear Matte Photo Paper would work well, but I haven’t tried it.

Creating Your Own Washi Tape in Silhouette Studio

1) In Silhouette Studio, create an 8.5x11 canvas and turn on the registration marks to the smallest settings.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) Using the rectangle tool, create a rectangle the size you would like your washi strip to be (mine was 7.25"x.75") and then fill your page with as many as will fit.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3) Drag and drop your desired paper patterns into each rectangle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4) In the "fill" panel, you can adjust the part of the pattern that will print using the "pan pattern" tool or you can rotate the pattern using the "angle" dialogue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5) After you have your patterns the way you want them, print and cut!

Creating Your Own Washi Tape in Cricut Design Space

1) In Cricut Design Space, create an 8.5x11 canvas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) Go to Upload>Pattern Fill and upload as many patterns from the paper pack as you would like. This will have to be done one at a time. Just drag and drop your pattern, hit upload, wait for it to upload, and repeat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3) On your document, use the shape tool to create a rectangle the size you would like your washi. I did .25”x7.5”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4) In the top toolbar, change the operation to “standard” under “print then cut”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5) Click the colored square next to that dialogue and change it to one of the patterns you uploaded. You can then edit the pattern via the “edit pattern” function at the bottom.

6) Repeat for as many pieces of tape as you’d like, then send for print and cut!
