December Daily 2022: Day 5

It’s Day 5 of my December Daily and today I’m doing a single page layout to celebrate a mom win! Like I said earlier in the month, my goal is to try and keep my December Daily in a single album, so there will be a few single page layouts here and there when the story is compact enough to call for it!

Day Five

Last year, I had a huge mom fail when I didn’t think about replacing my daughter’s old initial stocking with the initial of her dead name until we were decorating on the day after Thanksgiving and by that time, there were no correct letter stockings left!

This year, I remembered my fail from last year and I ordered her “W” stocking in OCTOBER! Yay me!

I designed the base page for day 5 using the CTK Merry Making 12x12 Add On Kit during my Stress-Free December Daily Prep Day 6 Video so it was all ready to go, except it was facing the opposite direction in the rings - no big deal, I just had to flip the page (and all the tags on the flap) over so that the page was oriented the correct direction.

I matted my photo on patterned paper and then created a pocket with it to slide my journaling card behind. I often like hiding my longer stories so they don’t detract from my overall composition.

Because I knew this layout was going to be fairly simple, I decided to add some detail by cutting out my daughter’s name in large red card stock letters to go on the inside of the flap and hand-stitch their outlines in white embroidery floss.

I won’t lie, I don’t normally commit to such an intensive piece on my layouts during December daily, but it brought me a lot of peace to stitch each and every one of those letters while sort of meditating on my intentions for my now-adult child. It sort of made me want to dedicate a similar page for each of my other children in my album too.

The last thing I did was create a small cluster on top of the photo of the stockings using die cuts from the kit, an acrylic heart from Color Cast Designs, gold foil star stickers, and random sequins and pearls for a little bling!
