What you mean it isn’t Monday anymore?? Ok, let’s at least pretend for a little while that it is still Monday so I can show you my Altered Project.
This project I am going to show you today was purchase some time ago. I have a BAD habit of buying stuff to alter and only get about 60% of what I buy finished. So today’s project is a cute little wooden purse that I got at Michael’s for a dollar. They have a BUNCH of unfinished wood items in the $1-$2 range.
Supply list:
Wooden Purse from Michael’s
Juicy Pops by Traci Reed & Amanda Rockwell
Scissors, sandpaper, adhesive
Embellishments – ribbons,flowers, jewels, ect

Step 1 – Digital
Measure your purse (or other wooden item) and create new documents just slightly larger than your measurements. I tend to make them an easy fraction like 1/4 or 1/2 that I can converted to a decimal easily. My front & back documents measured 4.25 x 6 inches and the 2 sides measured 2×4 inches. I filled each of them with the papers I had chosen from Juicy Pops and then made a simple design on the front and back.
Then I made another new document that is the size of the paper I will be printing on (8.5 x 11 for me). Then I arranged all my rectangles on the sheet to print. I printed on double sided matte paper.
Step 2 – Cutting
Grab those scissor and cut out your 4 pieces. No need to be super precise because we are going to trim them in a minute (and then sand a little later)
Once you have the front and back cut out place one rectangle design down and place your wooden purse on top of it. Line up the bottom and at least one side edge. Now take your pencil and lightly trace as close as you can to the purse, don’t forget to trace the inside of the handle as well.

Then repeat for the back and the 2 sides. To cut the inside of the handle I used my x-acto knife.

Step 3 – Glue & Sanding
Take your time and glue one side at a time giving each time to dry. If you try to do all 4 sides at once the pages may slip, you could end up with bubbles from not pressing hard enough , and sanding will be more difficult once all 4 sides are on. I used Mod Podge, I wanted something I knew would hold the paper to the wood.

After each side has dried sand away any rough edges or paper hanging over the edge of the wood.
Step 4 – Embellish
I decided to embellish the front and back before I printed, so I decided to just add a few ribbons to finish off my purse

Step 5 – Fill It
I decided that this would be cute on my desk, so I filled it with some envelopes and a pen. You could fill this with a set of note cards and pretty pens as a great Mother’s Day gift as well.

I hope that you enjoyed this cute little altered project. Remember, we LOVE to see what you do if you are inspired by any of the altered projects here on the blog, so please link us up to your projects.
Till next time
