About Traci

My name is Traci Reed and I’ve made it my life’s mission to help inspire as many lovingly-crafted, story-rich scrapbook pages as I can. I want my designs to be the springboard to beautiful scrapbook pages that capture all the emotion, details and love you put into your pages.

A little about me, I’m a wife, mother, maid, chef, chauffeur, entrepreneur and artist. My husband Patrick and I are transplants from sunny Northern California to Knoxville Tennessee with our three boys Karsten, Josiah and Finn. We have 2 rescued dogs: a mini pincher/terrier mix puppy named Abby and a boxer/rottie mix named Reese and a rescue cat named Loki…that’s about all I can handle! Between taking the boys to school and all the other extracurriculars, I somehow find time to design digital scrapbooking product and work full time for Simple Stories – as well as keep my YouTube feed stocked with new scrapbooking videos! When I’m not working, I love to craft, read, cook, knit or crochet, or just pass out in a heap of exhausted mommy on the couch!

Just for fun, here are some answers to questions you didn’t ask:

1. What’s the story behind your name?

I was actually supposed to be named Jessica, but my grandmother insisted I would be called Jessie which is a “boy’s” name and since she was saddled her whole life with a “boy’s name” (Jo…not Josephine, just Jo), she put her foot down the day I was born and my parents had to pick something else. My parents have conflicting stories on where Traci came from, but I’m glad to not be named Jessica, there were 6 of them in my graduating class alone!

2. What Was happening in the world when you were born?

I was born during the 1984 Summer Olympics…and I care nothing about any type of sport..except the occasional jogging I do..awesome right?

3. What frightens you and why?

There are a lot of answers to this even if I AM pretty unflappable (if I do say so myself), but let’s go lighthearted, yes…Driving in the mountains with the drop offs on the side of the car? That TERRIFIES me. Well, I guess that would make me terrified of driving off cliffs, really. I even have nightmares about it sometimes.

4. What is your personal secret to happiness?

Let the little things go, and for goodness sakes, do not wake up every day holding on to yesterday’s grudge. The best quote I’ve ever seen for this is:

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. – Buddha

5. What kinds of lessons did you take as a child?

I took horseback riding lessons, swim team, golf, soccer, softball…but see the above answer to number 2. I also played the clarinet…

6. What personality trait do people most often associate with you? What other dominant trait do you have that people overlook?

Depending on who you ask, I would say confident. If you ask my husband, he’d say it’s bossy.

7. Tell about a teacher or class that had a great influence on you.

The class that shaped/changed my life would be Yearbook with Mr. Nichols. Without that class, I wouldn’t have had the skills or desire necessary to start a graphic design business at age 19.

8. What are your favorite foods? What foods do you detest?

Favorites: Sushi, Starbucks Peppermint Frappuccinos, French Fries and Cocacola. I’m currently attempting to not eat 3 of these. It is hellish.

Detest: Raw Onions and Bell Pepper, Diet Soda, fake Sugar, Beer.

9. What did you do as a child that got you in the most trouble with your parents? With your teacher?

My mouth! I have a quick wit and a sharp tongue.

10. What places in the world do you want to visit, and why?

Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain, Scotland, France, England.  My family has ties in Ireland it has always seemed like the most magical place you can be.  I think of Ireland as home even though I was born and raised in the U.S. I’d love to spend a few months in Europe traveling.

11. What is the most trying experience that ever happened to you?

Having three boys, no really.

12. What is your favorite book? What do books mean to you?

I LOVE books, I’ve always been an avid reader from the time I learned.  I wouldn’t say I have a FAVORITE book, I rarely reread anything but I LOVE the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon and I’m currently reading (and really like) the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.

13. Would you choose differently if you could choose your occupation again? Why and how?

Never, ever.  I might choose to do things a bit differently if I could, but I would never want to give up what I do.

14. List all the places you have worked and tell something about each one.

  • J.C. Penny (age 16) – awful…HATED it.
  • J.C. Penny Portraits (age 16) – this got me into photography, I loved it.
  • Glamourshots (age 17) – Yay for more FUN photography, and I got a lot of hair and makeup experience too.
  • The Picture People (age 18) – Noticing a trend?
  • Educaid (age 18) – a now defunct student loan organization, I needed a more steady job to support myself. My mom worked there and got me the job.
  • Traci Reed Designs (age 19+) – I started graphic designing after I had my oldest son and never looked back!

15. What does real success in life mean to you?

Being able to support your family by doing something that you love. The ability to find joy in the little things and survive what you think you can’t.

I want to buy your French Quarter kit but I don’t see it. Is it available for sale anywhere? (I only ask b/c it’s nicer than any of the other Mardi Gras themed kits– like, WAY better.)

Hi Traci! Question for you. I purchased your 3×4 and 4×6 collage cards from SS and they have rounded corners. I was thinking of switching to the straight templates versus rounded…is theeasiest way to continue to use those is to just stretch them out a bit so you don’t get the rounded corner or is there something else I can do in the template to make it easier? Thanks and I love love love the collages, I use them almost every week in my layouts!

Hi Mendie! I would just use my paintbrush and choose the layer I want to add the straight corner to and color in the corner. As long as you merge your collage with ctrl shift e before you move it to a larger canvas, you will be good to go and it won’t be messy!

I’m trying to locate the Christmas tree template you give as a freebie when you sign up for the newsletter. It is Scrapper’s Block Christmas Tree. I would love to use it in a layout. Thanks for any help you can give me.

So strange to absolutely ADORE your products… and think the world of your skills and then realize that you and I know the same person! So crazy! As a fellow yearbook nerd – I solute you and all that you have been able to do with your extraordinary skills! Congrats Traci!

traci–not sure where else to make a request. I have your 2015 planner kit and use the grids for PL all the time. I have them saved as small files that I print as stickers and place them in my planner. I am going to change to a 9 x 12 in format (Handbook From Studio Calico. Is there anyway you can make the grids for those page protectors. I think they are 4B and 3B in the store. Basically one is (9) 3 x4s three across and three down and the other is (3) 3×4 down the slde, middle is 3 x4 and the top right and bottom right are 4 x6. There is one that is all 3 inch squares but I won’t use that one. (I don’t think)

I have a few Traci reed files that came as a pdf files through my club kit.. I thought I had to convert to png to use in my silhouette. The images became grainy on the edges and when I trace the outline is wonky. (cuts into the actual design) every image does not trace. Any advice would be much appreciated, I was looking forward to cutting out everything on my cameo.

Hi Nicole – Did you get your files through Gossamer Blue? If so, PNG files are included already with the kit! Hope that helps!

I noticed that Sweet Shoppe Designs says that not of its products are S4H friendly, but you can contact the individual designer. Can I use your wonderful artwork in my S4H work? Or should I avoid it?

I found a kit made by you called I Am Speed. When I click the link, it takes me to Sweet Shoppe but the item is no longer available. They say I should contact you directly. I’m hoping this is the correct traci reed 🙂 Please let me know if this kit is still available. Thanks in advance.

Hi Traci, I am doing the Design Coach workshop. I’ve just sent you an e-mail. Would you please see if you got it? I sent you an e-mail on the 15th of January regarding that workshop but didn’t get an answer back, so I’m wondering if I sent it to the correct address. Thank you.

    Hi Traci,

I’m wondering if there is any chance that I may beg, plead, and beg a bit more with you to do a follow-up to your brilliant 12 x 24 Wrecktangles? The majority of my layouts is this size, and I would love more choices. Your realistic stitches with their dimensions and holes remain my favorite.

    Thanks for reading,

It seems you are getting quite a lof of unwanted comments. Maybe you should look into a solution for that. Yessir!
